What measures and precautions have your company taken – or are planning to take – to deal with the heightened threat of terrorism? What kind of actions would you like to see from governments that would help?

THE tagline of the SG Secure counter-terrorism campaign “Not if, but when” is apt. It is not about being alarmist or fear-mongering but realistic, given the increased number of terrorist attacks around the globe in recent times and in more varied forms.

As a cosmopolitan city with such a dense population, we know that Singapore is a key target. It is therefore imperative that Singapore stays vigilant and is well-prepared to handle any such attacks.

This includes stepping up security measures islandwide, having the right security intelligence to thwart terrorist plots before they transpire, and deploying trained Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) and medical aid in the event of an attack.

Businesses must also do their part to enhance security on their premises, especially at large-scale events. Individuals and the community need to stay vigilant as well.

Beyond these tactical measures, I believe it is more important to strengthen the social fabric of our nation and encourage social cohesion, racial and religious harmony.
